Installing CCTV systems for use at home or work can provide a number of benefits and we have outlined the most important things to consider before installing a CCTV system. The first thing you must do before purchasing any cctv set up is to identify why you need the system and what benefits it will bring. Then think about the total number of cameras you may need, a wide angle camera will cover a large area but offer you low definition. Therefore its sometimes better to install a couple of cameras that offer a close range focus than one covering a wide area. Good quality CCTV cameras change to monochrome in low light, if they are True day/night cameras they will perform much better as the camera physically changes the filter on the lens. A further thing to consider is do you require IR illumination, most external cctv cameras now have IR LED’s. IR cameras are often rated by the distance the IR will cover, this should only be used as a guide as some retailers often don’t understand this value and often enhance the actual IR range. It is also worth noting that Infra red does not work very well on grass or similar subjects. Infra Red CCTV cameras are called a number of things, such as bullet cameras, IR cameras.

The CCTV DVR you select will depend on the total maximum number of cameras you may require, if you need a maximum of 4 cctv cameras choose a 4 way DVR recorder, if you think you may need 5 cameras select the bigger 8 way DVR.
