Purchased as a replacement for a PC based recorder.
For the past 5 years we have used a PC running linux / zoneminder to record 8 cameras. Whilst this was cheap and worked adequately well, it required considerable setup time. It was not easy for the end user (non PC users) to use.
The XDH8 worked straight out of the box, boots in seconds and is easy to use. The end user can understand the remote control and change the display easily.
My only criticism is that when recording there is a red dot on each of the camera pictures. Try as I might, it is always there. We can live with it.

I purchased this item after some extensive research into dvr's, and have to say it's by far the best on the market for price & features. The service here is also 1st class so iv'e returned several times. Make sure you don't skimp on the internal memory like i did. Go straight for a minimum of 1TB to enable best record quality for longer periods.
